Cliffs’ new labor contract with United Steelworkers ratified

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. employees represented by the United Steelworkers (USW) at its Tilden and Empire mines in Michigan and its United Taconite and Hibbing Taconite mines in Minnesota have ratified a new four-year labor contract. The contract is retroactively effective from October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2022. The contract covers approximately 1,800 USW-represented workers at Cliffs’ operations.

The tentative agreement was announced September 30. Details of the contract will not be released, according to Cleveland-Cliffs.

The contract has been referred to as “fair and equitable to both parties,” by Lourenco Goncalves, Chairman, President and CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs.
