Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority announces updates to board of directors
The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority (DWCPA) has announced the addition of Shannon Price to its board of directors for a four-year term, and the appointment of current board member Bryan Powell to the position of Secretary-Treasurer. Price joins the board after the departure of the Honorable Alisha Bell, who had served since 2012, most recently in the capacity of Secretary-Treasurer.
Price has worked with non-profit organizations and local municipalities, where he has a proven track record in developing and implementing a variety of initiatives. Prior to this work, Price performed constituent relations for the Attorney General’s office for both Mike Cox and Bill Schuette.
Price has also served as an elected official serving as a Wayne County Commissioner from 2013-15 and Plymouth Township Supervisor from 2015-16. In both of these roles, Price was responsible for developing and managing multimillion-dollar budgets, economic development and collaborating with neighboring communities.
“I am honored to join the DWCPA Board of Directors and be a part of shaping the future of this vital agency,” said Price. “I have always been a passionate supporter for the work done by the DWCPA and look forward to leveraging my experience to help advance the agency’s mission.”
The DWCPA Board of Directors also unanimously approved the appointment of Bryan Powell to the position of Secretary-Treasurer. Powell joined the board in March 2017 and has been instrumental in advising the agency on various matters, primarily maritime and labor issues.
Powell serves as Assistant Vice President of the Seafarers International Union (SIU) and the SIU-affiliated Seafarers Entertainment and Allied Trades Union. He is also an active member of various organizations, including the Propeller Club of the United States, the National Defense Transportation Association, the Labor and Employment Relations Association, and the Society for Human Resources Management.
