Historic preservation projects recognized with esteemed award

The recipients of this year’s Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation brought vision, partnership and determination to five noteworthy historic structures in Michigan.

Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association is among the 2018 recipients for long-term stewardship of four Lake Michigan light stations: Big Sable Point Light Station, Little Sable Point Light Station, Ludington North Breakwater Light and White River Light Station.

Now in its 15th year, the award program was created by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) at Michigan State Housing Development Authority to recognize outstanding historic preservation achievements that reflect a commitment to the preservation of Michigan’s unique character and the many archaeological sites and historic structures that document Michigan’s rich past.

The awards will be presented at a public ceremony in the Michigan State Capitol Rotunda Tuesday, May 1. To learn about previous Governor’s Awards recipients click here and select SHPO Programs & Projects.
