Maritime history to be showcased at 59th Annual Detroit Boat Show

The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority (DWCPA) is supporting the Great Lakes Maritime Institute (GLMI) with an informative booth at the 2017 Detroit Boat Show. The groups are working to raise awareness of the Great Lakes shipping industry and showcase Detroit’s rich maritime history. Through this initiative, the DWCPA and GLMI are providing an opportunity for guests to visit the booth and learn about the importance of the shipping industry, see Detroit maritime art, photos and videos, view a computer-simulated map provided by BoatNerd that tracks freighters along the Detroit River and more.

The partnership extends beyond this one event; in fact, the GLMI facilitated raising the anchor from the S.S. Greater Detroit from the bottom of the Detroit River in November and, once restored, it will be on display at the DWCPA’s facility this spring.

The Port of Detroit Exhibit will run through Sunday, February 19 at Booth #35 in the Cobo Center at 1 Washington Blvd. in Detroit. Hours for the exhibit are as follows:

3 p.m.- 9 p.m. Monday-Friday

11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday

11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday
