Seaway welcomes new members to board of directors

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) announced August 4 that Raymond Johnston and Patrick Bushby have been appointed to its board of directors.

Johnston is President of Chartwell Consulting Services Inc. and has a long history in the marine industry. From 2000 to 2013, he was President of the Chamber of Marine Commerce. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of Canada Steamship Lines, a Montreal-based international shipping company. Johnston’s vast marine experience ranges from operations to environmental stewardship. He spearheaded the creation of the Green Marine Management Corporation, an industry-led environmental sustainability initiative, and is currently its President. He succeeds Jonathan Bamberger as the SLSMC Director for Other Industry Members.

Bushby is Director of Operations for Ontario and Quebec for Viterra, a Canadian grain industry leader, with responsibility for strategic and capital planning, health and safety, maintenance programs and human resource planning. His vast grain industry experience also includes senior management positions with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Bushby replaces Wayne Devlin as the SLSMC Director for the Grain Industry Members.

Terence Bowles, President and CEO of the SLSMC, welcomed the appointment of Johnston and Bushby, noting that their many years of experience will provide the SLSMC’s board with a wealth of knowledge to draw upon. “Without question, these new board members will complement the board’s existing skill set and assist in advancing the St. Lawrence Seaway’s competitiveness and reputation as a reliable trade gateway,” he said.

Bowles also extended his appreciation to Jonathan Bamberger and Wayne Devlin who recently completed their respective terms on the board. “I wish to commend both of these individuals for their exemplary service to the Seaway.”
