SNAME names Beckstoffer incoming President for 2019-20
At the recently concluded Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Maritime Convention in Houston, Texas, SNAME broke new ground with the election of Suzanne Beckstoffer as the incoming President of SNAME for 2019-20.
Her priorities as President will include emphasizing both student and professional education, leveraging SNAME’s strengths to provide member value and boosting SNAME’s presence and global membership reach. As SNAME enters its 125th year, Beckstoffer fervently believes the organization should do even more to highlight the youthful and diverse nature of its membership.
Beckstoffer is a SNAME stalwart, having served in many volunteer roles at both the section and executive levels. She currently serves on the SNAME Fellows Committee, chairs the Applications Committee and is a member and past-Chair of the Hampton Roads Section.
Navigating a successful and distinguished shipbuilding career for over 30 years, she retired in 2016 from her position as an Engineering Director at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS). During her tenure at NNS, she led the migration of the new FORD class aircraft carrier 3D product model to a new Product Lifecycle Management toolset, directed the company’s Research & Development program, managed the installation of the Automated Steel Facility robotic cutting and welding lines for steel fabrication and performed engineering and design activities for aircraft carriers, submarines and commercial vessels.
