U.S. Army Corps releases Final Recommended Plan on study to prevent aquatic nuisance species from moving into Great Lakes

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released The Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) – Brandon Road Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) – Will County, Illinois.

This report, referred to as the Final Recommended Plan, incorporates comments received from the public review conducted August 7, 2017 through December 8, 2017. It presents a plan that could prevent aquatic nuisance species from moving from the Mississippi River Basin to the Great Lakes Basin through the Chicago Area Waterway System. The recommended plan is the Technology Alternative – Acoustic Fish Deterrent with Electric Barrier, which includes nonstructural measures, acoustic fish deterrent, bubble curtain, engineered channel, electric barrier, flushing lock and boat ramps.
